Sandara Park

Sandara Park was born on November 12, 1984 in Busan, South Korea is a Korean who once starred in movies and television shows in the Philippines. Her unusual three-syllable Korean name, which she has mentioned numerous times in interviews, comes from that of a Korean general, Kim Yushin whose childhood name was Sandara.

Sandara was born to affluent Korean parents. However, by the time Sandara was 8-years-old, her father's relatives placed him in a financially tight spot which then crippled his business. In hope of recovering from this business strain, Sandara's father tried his luck in the Philippines, settling in a small apartment in Pasay City and starting a business. Sandara and her family remained in her grandmother's house in South Korea for some time until her father finally had enough money to relocate his family to the Philippines.

During one of her school functions, Sandara met Pauleen Luna who was then a talent of ABS-CBN Channel 2. Luna encouraged the shy Sandara to audition for Star Circle Quest, a then-upcoming talent search for ABS-CBN. Park tried her luck and was in the same batch with fellow questors, Hero Angeles and Joseph Bitangcol.

The show's judges called her in and was able to elude elimination several times, paving way for inclusion into the contestant pool's top ten. Being a native Korean, she displayed some trouble with the daily exercises set by the panel of Filipino judges. Though she had some comedic ability, she remained monotonous, dull or lacking in timing. What she lacked in talent however, she made up with charisma. She proved this during the whole run of the show in which she consistently garnered the Texter's Choice Award, an award given weekly for the contestant who got the most text votes from the viewers. During the last elimination round in which the final five contestants were chosen, Sandara made Philippine history by garnering approximately 500,000 text votes, making her the first female to garner that much SMS support. And so she was in until the final night where she was announced runner-up to Hero Angeles. It is estimated that she got at least 2,000,000 accumulated SMS votes from supporters during the entire run of the contest.

After a tumultuous partnership with Hero Angeles, Sandara Park opted to pursue college and workshop lessons in Seoul, South Korea. There were rumors and statements in the Korean press that Sandara had tried to become a singer and actress in South Korea, but due to a series of setbacks, it never materialized.

Soon, local media, playing along the controversy, voiced their unhealthy indifference with Angeles and his brother-turned-manager, Henry. This even led to the Angeles brothers suing writer, columnist, and showbiz aficionado, Cristy Fermin. Nonetheless, Sandara left for Korea still, leaving her troubles unresolved and for the public to decide.

During her stay in Korea, her rumored boyfriend, Joseph Bitangcol, openly admitted their relationship on national TV via the showbiz talk show, The Buzz, shocking Hero-Sandara fans.

Not long after that, she was given a break in the recording industry. Under Star Records her first album Gwa Ai Di was released mid of 2007.

Except for the fact that she's not an orphan, Kim has a sort of 'Cinderella' story. The teen who hails from Cebu, with her siblings, currently lives with her dad and his second family. Her parents separated when she was 9 years old. Her dad met her stepmom during a business trip in Vietnam. Kim's dad got into a vehicular accident and her 'tita' took care of him there. When Kim was in her first year in high school, her mom had to suddenly leave for Hong Kong, so her dad and his new family took her and her siblings under their wing. "Wala naman akong magawa. Hindi na rin naming nagawang magalit. Kesa magtanim ka ng galit sa puso mo, tanggapin mo na lang."

She rates her relationship with her stepmother as 'ok lang', neither good nor bad. "She doesn't talk to us about our dad. Minsan mabait siya minsan hindi. Dati masungit talaga siya. May nagawa lang kaming konting mali ng mga kapatid ko sinusumbong na niya sa daddy ko. Napapagalitan tuloy kami. Tapos minsan sabi ni daddy 50 pesos ang baon ko, then 20 lang ang bibigay niya." Their family used to be well-off. They even had a store in Tacloban. Her family isn't exactly dirt poor now but she sometimes misses the old days when she got driven to school by their own car. "My mom nagpatayo siya noon ng house na worth halos 4 million pesos tapos di naman pala namin kaya. Ang nagpapaaral sa akin ngayon dad at tita ko. We used to have our own house, our own car. Now we live with my lola and I take a jeep to school."

She started as a model for a Mcdonalds McJelly trio television commercial. She was initially discovered by Anette Gozon and eventually invited Rhian sign up under GMA Artist Center. She became part of Captain Barbell and directly paired with Richard Gutierrez. She starred in Lupin also with Richard Gutierrez. She currently works with Mark Herras in My Only Love. She will reprise Angel Locsin's role as Darna in Captain Barbell Meets Darna.

For someone who has just started her modeling career, 16 year old Rhian Denise Ramos Howell or Rhian Ramos for short, made an abrupt transition to show business when she was cast as one of the female leads of "Captain Barbell," the newest fantasy-action-drama series that will hit the realm of TV soon.

It was through her McDonalds McJelly Trio TV commercial that she was noticed by film producer Annette Gozon. She then asked GMA Artist Center’s Ida Henares to reel her in as one of their latest discoveries. Fortunately, convincing her to join show business was a breeze since she happened to be Ms. Henares’ niece!

"I have thoughts of joining show business. But I wanted to enter it after I make something out of my modeling career. I was surprised it happened immediately...the job picked me," she exclaimed ecstatically.

Very raw in acting, she however bagged the role of Leah in "Captain Barbell." Leah is the childhood friend of Teng (the human identity of Captain Barbell played by Richard Gutierrez) who left for the States with her family. "’Captain Barbell’ has been part of the lives of Filipinos for a long time already. I wanted to give it a try because it’s something very Filipino. It’s a classic so I really wanted to give it a try. If I ventured into acting it’s because this is really a good project to start with," she remarked.

Jennylyn Mercado

Jennylyn Pineda Mercado was born on May 15, 1987 in Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines is a Filipina actress and singer. She became famous after winning in the first season of StarStruck, a reality-based talent search show of GMA Network in the Philippines.

In the October 14, 2004 episode of TV drama series Magpakailanman of GMA Network, which featured her life story, viewers learned more about her childhood.

In May 4, 1991, when she was nearly four years old, she made headlines as a battered child. Her assailant was her stepfather, who burned her skin with cigarette butts and whacked her back with a flat iron. Her mother, who was then in Dubai working as a domestic helper, immediately came home. She came not to take care of her daughter, however, but to bail out her partner, who was in detention.

Her mother migrated to London and had her own family. Jennylyn's aunt, Lydia Mercado, legally adopted her.

In June 2004, Jennylyn's biological father, Noli Pineda, now 50, came home for a holiday. His arrival did not go unnoticed by the press. Reports came out saying that he was asking for money from his now self-sufficient daughter an accusation she has strongly denied, insisting that her father wanted her to use his surname Pineda. She and her biological father, who is based in Korea, keep in touch.

Jennylyn is now the official spokesperson of the Bata Foundation (Christian Mission Services), a non-governmental organization. It operates with basic funding support from its partner organization, Christlicher Missionsdienst (CMD) headquartered in Germany, supplementary assistance from two Japanese organizations and a few local groups, with the help of Feed Hungry Inc. and the GMA Artist Center.

Jennylyn was a senior at the Augustinian Abbey in Las Piñas, where she actively took part in school programs, from Prep to 4th year High School.

Because of her hectic work schedule after winning Starstruck, she had to take a leave from school. If given the time and opportunity to pursue her studies further, the young actress has said that she'd like to take up Mass Communications as a major. In a more recent interview though, she mentioned Interior Design as her preference.

She became the girlfriend of co-StarStruck survivor Mark Herras but their relationship has now ended. Although the pair may have declared that they have split up, their on-screen team-up bears no signs of breaking down.

Jennylyn was being wooed by numerous men (like actor Jake Cuenca who gave her a dog - Migs - while working with her in the 9th season of Love to Love entitled Miss Match. But all were just rumors. There were also hints that Jennylyn and Mark got back together again but there had also been rumors that she and her former non-showbiz boyfriend, Jigs Cristobal were back together, too. Jen denied all of these saying she has not gotten back together with Jigs nor Mark. Up to date, she is having her relationship with Patrick Garcia.

The young singer-actress has stated that none of the rumors are true. She claimed that, at present, she still is entertaining suitors but her career is her utmost priority.

Now, she admitted that she has been going out with award-winning actor, Patrick Garcia. The two had been spotted together in one of the country’s finest island, Boracay. Rumor has it that the two are now officially together as confirmed by some of their friends. But the actress-singer neither admits nor denies the status of their relationship. In one recent interview by Dolly Ann Carvajal of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Jennylyn explains, “"I don't deny that Patrick inspires me but that is all for now.” She also admits that she is six weeks pregnant with boyfriend Patrick Garcia. They have announced that they are going to have a civil wedding.

Toni Gonzaga

The decision of singer-actress Toni Gonzaga and bossa nova chanteuse Sitti to schedule their respective concerts ahead of everyone else for the forthcoming Valentine season is a good idea.
It’s a ‘one-night-only’ show for Toni, scheduled on February 9 at the Aliw Theater while Sitti goes onstage at the Music Museum for two consecutive nights on the same weekend.

For a change, Sitti and her advisers have decided to mount a pop show instead of the usual bossa nova fare that has become her signature repertoire. “I guess it’s about time that people hear something new, and I feel that this show can be a good jump-off point for me to explore new adventures when it comes to my musicality,” she explains.

Sitti clarifies that she will definitely have a segment that will feature songs that the public has gotten used to hear her sing. “Syempre hindi pwedeng mawala ang bossa nova,” she asserts. Adding that she has picked a few tracks from her latest album under Warner Music including her personal favorite, “My Ever Changing Moods.”

Sitti lets us in on some of the songs that have made it to the list for her show next weekend. “I’ll do my version of Nat King Cole’s ‘When I Fall In Love’ and I will also attempt to sing fast OPM hits like Donna Cruz’s ‘Kapag Tumibok Ang Puso’ and Ogie Alcasid’s ‘Dito Sa Puso Ko.’” Whether she’ll show her dancing skills or not is something Sitti wouldn’t tell us at this time. “I have to practice really hard,” she says in jest.

Sitti has invited some guest performers in her show: Richard Poon, Marissa Sanchez, Jeffrey Hidalgo and Jon Santos.

Meanwhile, Toni Gonzaga is a picture of a woman in love when we met her for lunch recently. “Halata ba?” she asks, more like an affirmation than mere questioning. Toni has been nurturing a young, romantic relationship with music video and television director Paul Soriano, a grandson of former matinee idol Nestor de Villa. “We’re doing well,” she volunteers, adding, “Although he won’t be the director for my show on February 9.”

“I try to separate the personal from the professional,” she continues. “I guess it’s better that way. You know how this business can sometimes be nasty and cruel. Yung mga nagmamahalan, pinaghihiwalay; yung mga hindi naman bagay pilit na pinagsasama.” Certainly spoken like someone who has made a lot of compromises in her showbiz life.

Not many know that Toni is, first and foremost, a singer before that soda commercial with matinee idol Piolo Pascual catapulted her to instant celebrity status. Toni joined a singing contest of GMA 7 years ago, and although she didn’t end up a winner, it opened new doors for her.
“I have to admit I’m nervous because I’ve never had anything as big as this as a singer. I have been hands-on with the entire team led by my director GB Sampedro, from the selection of songs to the littlest details,” she adds.

Inspired by her hit song, “Catch Me I’m Falling,” Toni’s show is titled Catch Me…Toni Gonzaga, and she will have Sam Milby and Vhong Navarro as her special guests.

Jolina Magdangal

Maria Jolina Perez Magdangal, or more commonly known simply as Jolina Magdangal or Jolens was born on November 6, 1978 in Quezon City, Philippines,is a popular singer, actress and television host from the Philippines. She was a former ABS-CBN singer, host and actress but later moved to GMA Network.

JOLINA Magdangal, one of the most popular young stars in the ‘90s, continues to be an enduring personality in show business. She has proved that she was no fluke when she shot up to stardom more than a decade ago.

Everyone in showbiz could not forget Jolina’s signature fashion statements, her hit singles, her box-office hit movies, and her top-rating TV shows. Today, Jolina remains to be the idol of many young upstarts in showbiz. How Jolina maintains her popularity is something that she bashfully shares to many newcomers.

“I never considered myself a very big star,” Jolens starts. “If there’s one person in a room who will (sic) appreciate what I do, masaya na ako roon. That’s how mababaw I am. I don’t need the big applauses (sic), the standing ovations. It only takes one person to say I’m good, that will literally brighten up my day.”

But petite Jolina seemed destined for bigger things. She got what she didn’t expect to achieve, but deep inside Jolina is still the simple girl whose first love was singing.

“When I joined showbiz, my real aim was to be a good singer. Nothing more. All the others that came after I consider as bonus. It’s really singing that I was associated with. It’s music that really lights up my life.”

This early in 2006, Jolina begins her year with two new achievements. First is her new magazine show titled Bongga Ka Star and second is her new album titled Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Awit under GMA Records.

In Bongga Ka Star, Jolina is given the opportunity to become a host of a show all to herself. As a feature of the magazine show, she gets to interview and get to know more about the featured star of the week. Still a fan-at-heart, Jolens makes her own style of being intimate with her subject. She says its different from hosting her daily show Starstruck: The Nationwide Invasion.
“I’m more of a listener than a talker,” she laughs. “That’s true. Since Bongga Ka Star is not a talk show, I only try to inject a few things that I’ve learned from my subject. Just like our pilot episode where we had Lorna Tolentino as guest, I found out so many things about her that I never knew. As fans, we have the tendency to regard the artista as a perfect creature, no flaws. But, like all of us, they are also human and can make mistakes. Those little details are the things we like to talk about in the show.”

Jolina’s life in showbiz is interesting enough as well. But she is the first to object. Jolen says that she still has more to experience in life.

“Kulang pa ang mga nangyari sa akin as compared sa ibang artista. I told a small percent of my life story in Magpakailanman. Hanggang doon na lang because I know that many more things will happen. Hindi pa time to put it all out. My life is not as open as many people in the business. May nire-reserve pa rin ako for myself.”

One of which is her relationship with Bebong Muñoz. Jolens five-year-old romance with Bebong has always been private. She only gives out a few details but chooses to keep the more private things intact.

“Matagal ko ring inalagaan ang relationship namin ni Bebong. Hindi naman showbiz ‘yung tao kaya I want him to be protected from intrigues. You know how cruel a few people in the business could be, ‘di ba? Though Bebong doesn’t mind because he’s really open to what will happen to our relationship in the future, but I chose to make things private for us. Iniisip ko rin kasi ang family niya. I want to show my respect to them by not involving Bebong in any controversy.”
One of the most frequently asked question to Jolina is mostly about getting married. At age 27, Jolens is more than ready to become a wife and mother. But she chose to take things slowly one at a time.

“I’m not in a rush though halos lahat they are asking kung kelan ako magpapakasal na? Bakit nila ako gusto mag-asawa ba? Sawa na ba sila sa akin?” she laughs out loud.

“I guess I can say that I’m financially, mentally, and physically ready for marriage. Even my parents say na okey na ako mag-asawa, sabihin ko lang. But I feel that it’s not that right time yet. Bebong is not pushing me to get married, he’s also concerned of my career. Gusto niyang mag-enjoy pa ako habang nandiyan pa.”

“But we already made a few plans. Parang pang-back-up just in case we decide to exchange ‘I do’ to each other. Yet I don’t see myself getting married soon. Mangyayari iyon but not this early.”

Jolina can finally say that she has found the one. And like her carrier single in her new album, “Maybe It’s You” (theme song of the Asianovela Kim Sam Soon), she can drop the ‘Maybe’ and stick with the titled ‘It’s You’.

“Why not?” she giggles. “Seriously, I guess everyone has a special someone waiting for him or her. I believe that God has made a match for all of us. For me, I already found him and we wouldn’t last five years if we weren’t doing something right. I’ve longed for the perfect man but instead I ended up with an almost perfect relationship.”

Pauleen Luna

Pauleen Luna was born on November 10, 1988 in Manila, Philippines is a Filipina actress and television personality, who is one of the hosts in the Philippine television program Eat Bulaga!. She appears in several GMA Network programs.
Luna joined in the Little Miss Philippines contest of Eat Bulaga! in 1995. She then started acting at the age of 13 and becoming a member of Star Circle Batch 11 before transferring to GMA 7.
In 2006, she ranked #9 in the FHM-Philippines list of the sexiest women and was featured in the cover of the December 2006 issue of UNO Magazine.

I'm very happy dahil bukod sa maganda, peaceful yung relationship namin. His family is very nice, napakabait ng daddy at saka ng mommy niya. Parang siya, sobrang simple."

So, puwede bang sabihin na siya na ang magiging first lady ng Valenzuela?
"Hindi pa, matagal pa, I'm just 19 years old," nakangiting sabi ni Pauleen. "And so is he [Sherwin, 33 years old], madami pa siyang dreams na gustong ma-fulfill. Actually, ito namang pagme-meyor, he doesn't need this. Actually, it takes pa so much of his time and energy, but he just want to prove his importance to this country and he cares so much for the country."

I always tell Nanay Lolit [Solis, her manager], sabi ko, ‘It's up to you ‘Nay. If you think it's gonna be good for me, get it. If you think no, then don't.' Hindi naman ako maarte, I do supporting roles, I do lead roles also. I host, I act, I dance, I sing. So, ako, whatever that's given to me, I just grab it.

"Pero ito ang regular ko talaga, Eat Bulaga!, this is the really fun playground to play in.

It's just like an actress working, you work to do well in your craft and kapag nagka-award ka, bonus na lang bale ‘yon."

"Of course, it's important in a way, because masarap sa pakiramdam ‘yon, e. Yung may nakukuha ka out of your work and sa pagod mo. But as I've said, ang main goal namin is to make the people happy and to help them.

"Isa pa, dito [sa Eat Bulaga!], we are a family, we don't do this to hurt other people. Ang ginagawa namin ay para sa mga tao, sa mga suki ng Eat Bulaga!, sa mga loyal Dabarkads na laging nakatutok, sumusubaybay, at sumusuporta sa amin. Hindi kami direktang nakikipaglaban, kundi nakikipaglaban kami sa mga sarili namin para mas gumaling kami at mas maganda lagi ang mai-o-offer namin sa televiewers," paliwanag ni Pauleen.

ON GOING SEXY.

"To each his own kasi ‘yan, e, and kung sa kaya, kaya naman yata ng lahat ng tao ‘yon. Pero to each his own nga, e, case to case basis. So, if you think it's gonna do good for you, then do it. Like sina Katrina [Halili], it did well for them. But if you're happy naman with your status right now... Kasi my parents and my relatives are very conservative, especially the parents of Sherwin. The mom of Sherwin is a pastor, so...

"Yeah, kinu-consider ko siyempre. For the good of everyone, I'm not naman selfish, e. Hindi lang para sa akin, If I know that my relatives will gonna get affected like my lola, my lolo, I will not do it naman for myself lang," pahayag ni Pauleen.

"I really don't need the money for myself. But like what I've said, it's the craft that I want to do well and I want to do prove to myself na I can do stuff, that you're not just a pretty face. So ako po, I just do well in everything that is given to me, it doesn't matter what it is.

"So, okay lang po kahit sabihin nilang iniiwan na ako nang milya-milya ni ganitong young star. Wala na akong pakialam sa intriga, unless it touches my personal life. But kung ganyang intriga lang, okay lang ‘yon. Hindi ako maaapektuhan, basta happy naman ako dito sa Eat Bulaga! at saka kay Sherwin, sa family ko," pagtatapos ni Pauleen.

Maja Salbador

Born October 5, 1988- Maja Salvador is one of the latest in line of the illustrious show biz clan of the Salvador family. She is now making her own identity and mark as the Dance Princess of the Philippines and one of the most promising young actresses in the industry.

Peculiar Discovery…

Unlike other celebrities who were discovered on talent search and through commercials and endorsements in television, Maja was accidentally seen by the executives of ABS-CBN Channel 2, on a nationwide television show where she was reuniting with her long-lost father, Ross Rival. The moment of reconciliation between the father and daughter was actually then the primary step for the lady to go on or pursue the showbiz world.

Not all people know that Maja, was at first a ramp model at her young age together with a found friend Farah Ramos, who is the daughter of Chit Ramos, a movie-columnist and talent manager. Maja then confided with Chit regarding her longingness to see her father she didn’t see for years. Little did she know that Chit immediately worked out for the reconciliation of Maja and her dad. With the help of her extended family, she was brought up to the house of one of his uncles, Ramon Salvador where she finally met her father.

The said reunion was actually aired on THE BUZZ. That time, one of the heads of ABS-CBN was watching her closely. Charo Santos- Concio asked her staff to look for Maja after watching that touching moment which actually made a mark on her. Thus did Maja Salvador sign up with the ABS-CBN Network and was then introduced in her first soap opera, It Might Be You as the leading lady for John Pratts.

Her showbiz world started…

Blessings incessantly poured over her after receiving lots of projects both on television and movies. According to her, the best project that was given to her would be being a part of the Ultimate Dance Four with Rayver Cruz , Shaina Magdayao and John Pratts as well. Obviously, dancing really is her passion yet shes trying to change or transpose genre from dancing to pure acting.

Undoubtedly, being a Salvador proved the audience that she really can work it out as an actress like most of her family members are. As an evidence for this, she was actually nominated as one of the new female actress in the box-office hit movie, Sukob. This only proves that she’s a a jock of all trades. She can definitely dance and sing, and without any questions, she really can act.

Maja as an Ordinary Girl…

Maja is having the time of her life right now. Despite her busy schedule, she can still make time to be with her friends and family whenever she is free. Going to shopping malls wearing just simple white navy top and casual shorts definitely describes her as really ordinary. But still, according to her, she still needs to be presentable whenever she goes out because she will be seen by her fans.

Actually, she is everything a perfect celebrity should be. No doubt, she is talented, kind, friendly and most of all hard working. At an early age, Maja Salvador was able to prove not only herself but her family that they can be proud of her being a Salvador.
